Re: Lack of progress

Hi I can see a few improvements in terms of your stroke from being an over glider, but there is always a lot you can't do/fix on your own. Did you get a coach to film your stroke? if so, did the coach go through any technique work with you?? It will take time as pointed out - especially on your own....

Re: How good is the track?

Looks pretty good to me. You can see you were getting tired on the home straight though with a few areas that you went off course a little. You quickly adjusted though and got back on course which is good.

Well done :D

Where do you feel you went so wrong that you wanted the forum to take a look?

Re: High elbow catch - how to know if I'm doing it right

Hi Zed I would say, if you can, get a video analysis done by one of the Swim Smooth coaches :D If you don't have access to a Swim Smooth coach then do doggy paddle drill; look forward and make sure your arms are reaching forward, not down; perform skull #1 and #2, then pull through. Because you are ...

Re: Red Mist Roller Coaster

Hi Your rest is at the end of the 400m. You should be aiming to beat the beeper on each 25m / 50m in order to get your rest period at the end of that set you are on. So, if you are ahead of your beep by 1 second per length (ie. 25m), you would get around 16 seconds as your recovery before the beeper...

Re: Coaching Question..Suggestions Triathlete Swimming Faster

HI I would suggest that the swinger style is not for this lady. You can see that she is more of a Bambino in the left video. Upping her stroke rate hasn't done anything for her other than create more problems I'm afraid from what I can see. How long have you been coaching her? I ask this as it may b...

Re: Father and son training

100m is easy for him, 200 a bit of a stretch.TP The key there is that it's a bit of a stretch. You'll be surprised how quickly he will be doing 2-2.5k sets with you. They are little engines! So my idea is to do "Technique" main sets when I go to the pool with him, but have him do, say, ha...

Re: Progress report

Thanks gavinp, well, I was trying to swim as fast as possible so faster than 25 per length was good :). But yes, I have heard this advice many many times. It sounds a bit counter intuitive to me as the first 1 or 2 lengths feel so easy. Wouldn't it be a waste not to take advance of it? Besides it i...

Hi Tom

Not a good idea i'm afraid. Even strong swimmers will avoid a rip tide (or should do if they have any sense). Go anywhere near one and lifeguards will start twitching

Re: Progress report

This time I have used the tempo trainer set to 25s for the 400m, just to know how I'm doing. In the first few lengths I managed to get perhaps 5s ahead of the beep and then for the rest was more or less a fight in keeping this advance. Well done on the progress! The idea of the tempo trainer is to ...

Re: Synchronising from the Feet Up

Hi Cott That's good going. For training and getting the coordination going, give a go at dropping the beeps down to about 70-72 and get your flippers on when starting off the session doing a 2-beat kick. The flippers will help with support and get the coordination right without losing the balance. I...

Re: Classic Overglider - CSS question

Hi SkinnyFrenchy Looking at your times from this test, your 200m is much quicker than the 400m, which tells the algorithm that you are fast over a shorter distance and need to do more CSS and endurance type sessions to get better over longer distance - hence giving you a higher CSS in order to help ...

Hi. I can imagine that before you get in the water that you have it on your mind(?). The negativity starts there and you carry it through with you in the water. So.. Before you get in the water, have a conversation with yourself: Acknowledge that you are going swimming and that you are going to brea...

I live in the north of Portugal. So it's too far away for me unfortunately. Although it would be a great opportunity to visit England I'm on a really tight budget for the moment. Meanwhile went to the pool three more times and although last week I managed to get a bit faster, this week my shoulders...

Re: How can I get faster?

I always loved swimming and the water. I' ve been swimming, looking for improvement since January 2014, before that I went to the pool once a week not really worried with time. Since January 2014 I've been going three times week. But I have only been lurking the net, looking for improvement, more r...

Re: 6 beat-2 beat, back to 6 beat?

Hi Pete I always train to do both but in different sessions because it's good to have the ability to change depending on the conditions and environment. A great skill to have. Maybe start with flippers and get back to basics with short sets of streamline kick drills and 6/1/6, 6/3/6 drills to get th...
