Re: How Was Your Swim Today?

"quick" is always a relative term and, improvement is the real thing to be applauded for swimmers of all levels in perspective 56mins for 4k is 14mins per k in a pool Rottenest 09 Paul swam 19.7km in open sea water in 5hrs 24mins which is just over 16 min/km for nearly 20k - that's quick ...

4km free (56 mins) Woah. Fast... weuer - could've sworn I read something about the length of the pool I swim in being 36mts - but it seems to have magically disappeared!!! Yes - it's annoyingly a very strange length. It's nice to have a pool longer than 25mts which I find too short. My preference i...

Re: How Was Your Swim Today?

Not done any swimming, since now that the meet is over, I'm resting my left shoulder. I can already feel improvement in the flexibility and there's less pain. I'm pretty sure I'll be well enough to swim on Monday. This has been a good lesson, teaching me that I must stretch thoroughly. hehe. Even th...

Re: Yards v. Meters

1 yard is about 0.9 meters (0.9144).

There's currently no way to convert between yard times and meter times (that I know of), though.

When training, I don't think it really matters. Just think of your times in yards. Improvement is improvement, after all. :)

Ah, sounds like they're going to build a new one: http://www.fixedgearfever.com/modules.php?name=Velodromes&op=list&cid=hk I'm pretty sure if you ask them you could join for a taster as they are normally quite happy introducing 'newbies' to the sport. Just looked it up. Apparently, the Spor...

My time was almost a whole second slower than in the heats, so I was kinda disappointed, but I'm quite happy with getting 6th. :P Next target is to ramp up training schedule to lower my time to 29 seconds by June. hehe Hehe. If there isn't any additional pain, I guess there isn't really any reason to worry. Hopefully.

Re: How Was Your Swim Today?

Oh man, velodrome cycling sounds amazing. There are very few places in Hong Kong where you can cycle... Today, I swam an hour and a half, with diving practice. Continued to practice straight-arm recovery for freestyle. Much greater endurance with it, I find. Also further refined my dive to not go to...

I'm also starting to find that not only are my sprints faster but I tire less easily in middle distance swims. I told my friend, who's a non-believer, and he issued a challenge for 5k freestyle to see who would get tired first. :P haha

Re: Straight-arm vs Bent-arm recovery

Quick input from me: It's certainly not text book but it has its uses even for distance swimmers. We often experiment with a straighter arm recovery to help those with tight inflexible shoulders, it can really help their body rotation. Yes, I've been using it more and more and I feel that it really...
