Re: Swimming type or classification

Hi there,

Could you post a video of you swimming and we can then assess your swim type? Alternatively read the Bambino or Overglider profiles as these match your swimming speed. I would suggest you were at the beginner end of the spectrum. I hope that helps.

Re: swim smooth app

Hiya, we've designed the drills in the best way to help you improve your technique quickly- hence using fins! I'd advise trying to hire a lane somewhere, join your local tri club if they use Swim Smooth methods or join another pool where you can use fins to enable you to make the most of the session...

Re: wipping the tail

I will give that a try. But more in a general sense: Imagine a bunch of mad scientist on a fishing boat that cought Shelley-Taylor Smith in their nets during on of her marathon swims. For science sake the man in white coats grabbed a roll of duct tape, taped Shelleys legs firmly together and threw ...

Re: How to utilize the Development Guides

Hi, I may have missed something in the Arnie Stroke Development guide but I'm wondering about how to build the Dev guide into my swim workouts. I'm an age grouper triathlete just starting back to my regular Tri training for the 2015 season. I am swimming 2-3 times per week. Should the Arnie Dev ses...

Re: wipping the tail

Hi Smootharnie, Great analogy about a mermaids tail! Its possible your feet are splaying as a minor scissor kick as a result of crossover and imbalance through the core, and drifting out to whip the body back into alignment. Ideally, with good alignment and core stability, the feet should be able to...

Re: Legs and hips

Hi IM, The leg kick should be initiated from the hip, with a light flutter action, legs relatively straight, ankles relaxed, toes gently tapping if it helps and heel lightly breaking the surface. Those with longer lean legs tend to find a 6 beat kick works to maintain a streamlined body position, wi...

Re: Moving from 6-beat to 2-beat

Hi Scarlet, There's a great two beat development session in the Swinger Swim Type process of the app here: https://app.swimsmooth.com A two beat kick does take about 6 months to really perfect. You need a very effective catch and pull through in order to make it work properly for you. You might find...

Re: Question for Swim Smooth Coach

Hi Bob, You're an Arnie-Overglider. This swimmer has started life as an Arnie, keeping many of these swimming faults and traits but may have tried to slow things down and overly lengthen out the stroke adding in a distinct pause and glide which is equally as inefficient as fighting the water. We rec...
