Re: hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

I started this thread a few months or more ago, and since then I have adopted swim smooths recommendation (and yours) about trying to hold a quarter. I soon learned through experience and reading to push my torso down more so as to raise the legs. But that bit you wrote about staying firm so as not...

Re: hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

Swim smooth says to imagine you are holding (not crushing) a quarter between your cheeks, so I guess their recommendation would be appx 30 on the spectrum. This seems to me to push the lower body down into the water... ugh! I forgot to address this and have an idea for you. What I *think*, but don'...

Re: hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

There is a yoga move we did last couple of sessions it's the bomb for swimmers and this problem. imo Just lie on your chest and put your feet together point the toes a bit, arms at side, lift the legs, head, arms off the floor and arch the back - hold it. Repeat etc. Also arms forward like a swimme...

Re: hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

I found this brief article at http://www.stack.com/2012/09/26/freestyle-stroke-form-mistakes/ Article by G. John Mullen - G. John Mullen received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, where he served as a clinical research assistant investigating adolescent di...

Re: hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

Have you had yourself videod doing this? I ask as you would probably see that you still have sinky legs regardless of doing this (even though you perceive that they are higher). I videoed a guy who was doing exactly as you described last year and he was convinced that it was helping him until he sa...

hold a quarter OR tilt pelvis back

When I first started teaching myself freestyle, the thing that confounded me most was how on earth was I going to get my legs to stop sinking and creating so much drag. I'm a soccer player with a relatively short, skinny, upper body, and legs that are relatively long, heavy, and muscular. When I rea...

Re: What Do You Think Of Mr Smooth?

It would be useful if we could hide/unhide specific
body parts using a single mouse click. For example,
a user could hide the arms so as to just focus on
the rest of the body... or hide the legs, etc.

Re: What Do You Think Of Mr Smooth?

One thing to improve animated Mr Smooth though.
I would like to be able to see the "Overhead View"
with Mr Smooth in a vertical position, not not
only horizontal... (at present Mr Smooth's head
is at 9:00 but I want to also see it at 12:00).

Re: What Do You Think Of Mr Smooth?

I love the animated Mr Smooth. It has been a
huge benefit to me. I've studied his form for
a long time from many different angles. For
someone relatively new to swimming like me
its been really beneficial.

Re: Introductions - Say Hello

Hi I'm Mike. I was a horrible swimmer my whole life. I'm 32 and as I've gotten older I've realized that I'm very detail oriented, good at figuring things out on my own using the internet, and have good body awareness. So three years ago I figured I could just teach myself how to swim "proper&qu...

Re: FREESTYLE OF FORWARD CRAWL?

The event is called "free"style because the swimmers are "free" to use any stroke. For years and years now virtually all participants in said events have continued to choose the "front crawl" because they think its the fastest stroke. So now people just call it the &quo...

Did Ian Thorpe Overglide?

Did the pre-retirement Ian Thorpe overglide? In 2011 he said now that I'll being doing just sprints I need to learn to start my pull as my other hand is exiting the water whereas before I started my pull much later. Video of pre-retirement Ian Thorpe seems to back this up. So did he overglide? And i...
