Re: Can an Arnie become a good swimmer ? (video)

HI everyone, and thanks for your posts ! Today I tried several drills while focusing on my catch : keeping my hands in line with my shoulders / trying not to 'paddle" on sides. Well that did a lot of good, including breathing ! I will try to post a new video when I manage to embed this in my &q...

Re: Can an Arnie become a good swimmer ? (video)

Hi Don, I hope you'll recover soon ! I appreciate your analysis of those various faults in my stroke, which is so different whenever I use fins, a pb or a suit (luckily !). I would love to try several things re/ recovery arm / over-rotation / breathing etc. I've looked at various aspects you've unde...

Re: need some advice, video

thks Gavin i'll work on that ! Still, I think I'm very low in the water, it is a question of buoyancy, which makes it difficult to find a "trough" to breathe in.

Re: need some advice, video

Hello everyone, a happy 2015 swimming year to you all ! Here is my stroke looks like nowadays : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBBpa2fIFEQ&feature=youtu.be This is still submarine style, with most of the body underwater, and it is difficult to find a "trough" to breathe in ! If we loo...

Re: Swim video analysis

Hi there, watching your first video again I really think you are not a "sinking type". You have great ankle / knee flexibility as well, both very promising signs ! What I can see is some anxiety, the fear of sinking maybe ? I find myself to be anxious when swimming front crawl, but I can s...

Re: need some advice, video

Hello everyone, here is how my stroke looks like today. It feels a little easier but I can still see the low legs & bum, side-kick when breathing left etc. I've also discovered that breathing is much easier in open water or even in a 50m pool. Any comments / advice welcome ! ;) http://youtu.be/B...

Re: Inspired by the blog about Megan - my first goldilock set

Hello, I was also quite impressed by the Mega Megan article. But I'm still trying to understand two things. She has low-lying legs in the first clip. How does she reach a horizontal position a few months later, just because she's increased speed ? Secondly, If I'm struggling with breathing at 2.15'/...

Re: Swim video analysis

Hi mvp12, Don, I'm relatively new to front crawl swimming myself but I can relate to your problems and would be pleased to help. I think you are an Arnie indeed, so am I, with the sinking legs "syndrome". I have a few questions for you : -what is your general swimming / diving background ?...

Re: Swimming progress

hi Tophoid, Don, and everyone reading funny how so many things are related in a stroke. This week during a 1k lake swim and a pool session I realized just how much my posture needed some adjustment. Remember where I come from : http://youtu.be/M6A26g1vdhg http://www.swimsmoothforum.com/viewtopic.php...

Re: Swimming progress

hello Don, Tophoid, thanks for your comments. Tophoid I think you can swim a long distance despite your "breathing issue" ! Did you complete the 10k last year ? Among other problems which are probably all related to breathing*, I have this feeling that I'm also holding my breath. I have a ...

Re: Cottmiler's 1-2-1

I read this post last night and related to a number of the major failings you listed. I've tried to improve my exhalation before and not succeeded. This morning I gave it a go again an I nailed it! I'm sure my breathing technique is not perfect but it's a good start. I improved my average time over...

Re: Just started using the bambino guide

Hi Arnie ,Harry,Mike I am really pleased with the analysis video especially as six weeks ago I could not have done the opening swim of 200metres that the analysis is based on. I am feeling more confident than ever before that my swimming will improve from here on. You may remember from my previous ...

hi Smootharnie, and everyone, Don, Charles (quite a few names I recognize from my other post : "need some help, video" on the SSforum) ;) thanks again by the way ! I took the vertical float test today : lungs full : up to my scalp ! (And I believe I have quite a nice lung capacity.) No won...

Re: need some advice, video

hi Breizh, I think you should try doing a lap where you dont kick at all and try to keep your feet together, followed by swimming back normally. Keep your speed up, dont take to many breaths and really try and get your top half/chest swimming forward or over your stroke. When you swim back you shou...

Thanks for sharing all these clips with us. I think the reason for the left hand side collapse is simply that contrary t...

Re: need some advice, video

Hello everyone, and again thank you for all the great advice and hints you gave in this thread. Over the last 2 weeks I've tried to tame that wild kicking you can see in the first videos. I've been able to develop what I think is a 6-beat kick, which decreased drag and added some nice balance to my ...

Re: need some advice, video

I too saw the scissor kick and its more pronounced when you breath left. And I saw the pause too. I think you analyzed yourself pretty well. I have the same scissor kick and I am trying to get rid of it with a small 6 beat kick and trying to get rid of my 2 beat kick. It seems to be helping. Laurie...
