Re: where do I go from here?

Hi bast0236, You're in that development stage where things are starting to look pretty good. It's hard to put you into a category right now but you're heading towards smooth! A few minor pointers: - Focusing a bit more on exhalation will help a lot. - You generally look a little tense when you swim ...

Hopefully!

Still a few formatting issues getting sorted but nothing that should effect how things actually function.

Sorry about that guys - unwarned server changes by our hosting! :(...

Re: CSS

I'd be slightly more convinced about the logic and maths if the 200m and 400m points were (at least relatively) correct on the distance axis...or is it on a logarithmic scale or something irregular? It's a sketch drawn to show the effect with clarity. Can you visualise 200 and 400 on a linear scale...

Re: CSS

Now apparently the empirical observation underlying the formula, using just 200m, 400m measurements, is that it predicts s rather well. But that seems just coincidence, and I can't see any systematic justification for it. The average height for an adult man is 175cm but I think you'd have trouble f...

Re: CSS

Hi Sprinter, Have a little faith mate, it may appear random, guessed or made-up to you but in fact it's a very well researched model as I shall outline below. Of course we're dealing with human physiology here so there is an aspect of 'best fit to the population' of it, you're never going to get to ...

Re: Did Ian Thorpe Overglide?

If the video is at 30 frames per second and if there's 3 frames between the stroke finishing and the next starting at the front that's 0.1 seconds.

Re: Could I get some feedback

Apologies if I miss something here because I'm coming to this late and I haven't read the whole thread. Nygel, as you probably know I'm a pretty analytical guy myself and can totally relate to what you say about how you operate and niggling worries if you don't try things etc. What I would say is th...

Re: Shhhh, Loughborough Clinic March 16th

Great to meet you at the weekend Nygel! I did think my legs looked somewhat dropped and messy in the endless pool, but when I mentioned it Paul seemed to think it's likely a side-effect of swimming in an endless pool (didn't quite get the explanation). Yes, the turbulent water tends to give swimmers...

Re: David Davies' stroke, 2BK male swingers?

Hi chaps, David's kicking is interesting indeed. After 'the smackdown' at the show we took him to a local pool to film him and it was interesting to see him at work at a variety of effort levels and stroke styles. He's incredibly versatile with his kick, sometimes 6 beat, sometimes 2 beat which look...

Shhhh, Loughborough Clinic March 16th

Hi guys, It's very rare that Paul is in the country to look personally at your swimming but Paul, Annie and I are running a clinic at Loughborough Uni (UK) on Sunday March 16th. This will be a full one day video-analysis and stroke correction clinic running from approx 9am-6m on Sunday 16th March. W...

We're not 100% sure yet but yes my feeling is the PC/Mac version should remain free for current blog followers. :)

Re: Miss Swinger has arrived!

I can't explain why there's such a difference between Mr Smooth and Mrs Smooth though, as the former is kicking like crazy at 80spm compared to the later. Hi Charles, there's more frames in a bilateral cycle for Miss Swinger than Mr Smooth so to swim at the same stroke rate the device has to render...

Re: Miss Swinger has arrived!

Hi guys, thanks for the thoughts and feedback! Yes Miss Swinger was modelled from Shelley Taylor Smith's and Mel Benson's stroke, there's certainly a bit of Laure Manadou in there too. To get the proper whip kick effect you have to play it at 80-90SPM which we admit on many devices it won't hit... ....

Re: Arnie or Bambino?

Hi h2cruz, Kicktastic for me - it's in the way you co-ordinate the stroke even though you may have learnt to moderate the kick so it's not so obvious. Kicktastics can be very easy to identify (for obvious reasons!) or actually quite tricky if they have moderated their kick power. Are you slower or f...

Hi nightcrawler, Did M. Phelps overglide? Especially during right arm extension: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ax77_hHq9Dc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dax77_hHq9Dc Definitely not. These two frames are 0.1 second apart showing the completion of the stroke at the rear and the commencement at the fron...
