Re: Red mist set

What a great set! Tough but well worth giving it a go! Going to be doing it once a week and it's definitely going to be ones that I love to hate!

Re: Swimming with an ankle band

Thanks Cottmiler, I've got a pretty good EVF. I train with bilateral breathing but when i race I only breathe to the left - not sure why! I'll keep at it. My times for 50m with the bands are range from 40-42 seconds with 10secs rest inbetween. I didn't time the 200's or 400's though.

Re: Swimming with an ankle band

So I've just started doing this properly this week and I am not sure what I should be doing. I must admit I am rather shocked by how much my feet sink. I have swam a total of 2km over two days with the band - usually in 50 and 100m parts before I stop and reasses. I'm trying to egage the back muscle...

Ultimate 10km times

If the 3hr marathon is the ulimate goal for many runners, what is the equivalent for the 10km swim? More interested in what people think in skins but feel free to rubberise your dream times too...

Re: Best swimming tool?

My thinking is that it would help me get used to keeping my head still and in the right position - when I come to breathe without it, my head
movement would be minimised.

Re: Best swimming tool?

Thanks for the responses Nicolopolus and Solar - Solar, a big fan of your work over on Tritalk! What would be the best paddles? I am also thinking of a snorkel as I have noticed that my head comes up a lot when I breath - especially when I am tired! Working really hard on keeping my head down but i ...

Best swimming tool?

I'm looking at getting another swimming toy and was wondering what would help me the most. My current CSS is 1.30 having swum 400 in 5.52 and 200 in 2.52. I already have a wetronome and a band so I am looking at fins, snorkel or paddles. I will aim to get them all over the next few months but financ...

Re: Got any training advice for swimming the channel

Where are you based Gilly? If you are based in England then I would strongly advise you and your team to spend as many weekend's as you can training in Dover. From May onwards channel swimmers start meeting to train in the harbour under the watchful eye of Freda Streeter and her volunteers. Freda is...

Re: Biggest Loser Competition!

This looks great! have just finished my Great Swim Challenge and have just got back in the pool to work on some much needed technique - this gives me something nice to work on over the next few weeks.

Re: Wetronome woes

Hi Paul, thanks for the advice, I had a better few days in the pool. I am heading off to Scotland for the Great Scotland swim waves and will report back fully next week.
Happy swimming people

Wetronome woes

Since I have been using my wetronome I feel like I am going backwards. I did 10 x 400 on Saturday and averaged out to be around 6.15 for each which is about 20-25 seconds slower that usual. The only reason the average time was not slower is that the last one I did without the wetronome and just swam...

Re: Getting your swim pace awareness dialled in!

I cannot run at the moment Paul so taking all my frustrations out in the pool. I do between 20-30 miles a week but that includes some long sea and lake swims. No real goals - I was suppossed to do the Channel again but that fell through. Got a few smaller swims - doing every wave of the Great Swims ...

Re: Getting your swim pace awareness dialled in!

I have had a bad week in the pool. 30 of the longest toughest and slowest miles I have ever done. Maybe I am thinking too much and trying to concentrate on too many issue. Having a rest tonight and doing a 10 k sea swim tommorrow where I am going to completely relax and just enjoy swimming outside. ...

Re: FINA World Champs

Thanks Paul - Really wished I had got out to Rome to watch some of it - it looked fabulous. Comments have been very interesting too, in the 1500m the commentators mentioned the swimmers hands were not completley closed as this gives them a bigger surface area to 'catch'. I have always tried to swim ...

FINA World Champs

Watching this has certainly brought home the different styles but any tips on who we should be looking out for - apart from Mr Smooth of course! Federica Pellegrini has certainly caught my eye and so did Biedermann.

Re: Critical Swim Speed

Hi Paul, I am swimming in the pool four times a week and doing at least one long open water session over the weekend - usually two. If my stroke/bodyroll etc are not correct is it still worth concentraing on the CSS stuff? I am looking forward to my next session that is for sure. Hopefully get a vid...

Critical Swim Speed

I did my first session using this last night - boy was it tough! I swam at 1.28/100m and did the second session (5:45-7:30 for 400m). Not sure how much recovery I needed between sets so I gave myself 30 second (45 seconds on my third 400 to allow a breaststroker to finish their length). Felt that my...

Re: Getting your swim pace awareness dialled in!

That would be brilliant Paul - I have some footage of me in a wtsuit - it was 10 degress! but it is not very good and I have made a few adjustments (body roll, head position etc) I will try and find it though. Will see if I can get someone to film me in the pool this weekend.

Re: Getting your swim pace awareness dialled in!

I find that I start off much to slow and then have to speed up. I mainly do 10k swims so it always seems to take me a k or so to warm up - yes, i know I should probabaly warm up before hand :D At the moment I am quite frustrated with my swimming as I am not sure what I am doing wrong and would love ...
