Re: The Body Position Challenge

Helper? Is that the person who climbs in the box while the magician grabs a big chainsaw? Could be, but I see it more as the guy completing a duet in a standup comedy show. Dryland I may not have to integrate your material, so you could certainly present some of it. It's vague at the moment, I like...

Re: Beginner needs help

If you are lucky Solar will chime in here he works on a day to day basis with these kinds of problems and then you are golden. Probably no video either! My take here, if I understand the problem correctly, would be that the first step in making significant progress in this regard is to learn to swi...

Re: The Body Position Challenge

This is a fantastic little thread. Nice work everyone, working on the "right things". BTW, I fancy traveling this September, and would love to give a seminar, half dry half wet, 3hours in total probably. I'd be in the region of Copenhagen Denmark. I can travel by train as long as the dista...

Re: Flutter Kick Technique?

I am an absolute beginner in swimming and had my first lesson on Friday. I have a question about the proper technique for the flutter kick. When doing the flutter kick do the feet leave the water or is the action done under water? Thank you. Please, by any means, try and test it for yourself and se...

Re: Any SS advice for Shinji?

One of the best technical TI swimmers with great swimming instincts, but he is looking a bit lost and low on energy here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2YI_pNr6Po What is the SS view on his swimming style in these conditions? He is experimenting with a 6BK. Good idea? in a strict sense, there's ...

Neil I wish I could answer that for you and I only chime in b/c it doesn't seem like the SS mods post here these days. Last post I can find from Paul was in January and same for Adam and Solar. Has someone paged me? lol I do apologies for having kept radio silence for what seemed to be an eternity....

Re: CSS

What actually is the *justification* for the formula at http://www.swimsmooth.com/training.html ?? Hi Sprinter, the calculator proposed by SwimSmooth, and which happens to be the most popular one nowadays tries to simplify the process of getting your critical velocity in the water. As Paul and Adam...

Re: Bad, Average, Or Above Average?

Time yourself again. Because it's virtually impossible to be worth 54 over 100m, when you're worth only 27 over 50. With 27sec worth of pure speed over 50m, and given that you do very very very well over 100m, you could at best expect low 58, but not under this. By the way, the same would apply for ...

Anyone got a prescription for the two week bilateral hump ? I keep trying to overcome but to keep my CSS improving I stay unilateral anyhow I have a two week break from Squad and am going to do no good side breathing. My own prescription is 6 sessions of 3k as 100s of swim on poor side back fs ,fin...

Re: CSS

Looking back, I've probably come close to a CSS approach informally (and when I was well and competing back in the Dark Ages) Yeah, this is what I was going to say as I was reading the thread from top to bottom. It is very unlikely that anyone having trained in the water for quite some time could a...

Really nice exposition "Solar..."! Always something to be learnt from you! Thank you very much Don, your proposal does make sense too. Anyway, I hope I'm not going to be perceived as one who tries to drag people in "my own things". I should produce the Beginner's Single Arm prog...

Just wanted to share that I've started using Cott's Rx principle, i.e. moving away from business as usual for a certain period of time, focusing on a very restricted number of things, then resuming. Hi, I don't mean to drag you on my blog, but for sake of saving some time, and since I recently wrote something which may interest you, I thought about sharing it with you. You might want to have a read at the following article. Read it from top until you reach "Feel for water / Streamline / Di...

Re: Freestyle catch

Reason why this very very old belief seems to interfere with what SwimSmooth is advocating is that RaceClub and SwimSmooth doesn't address the same clientele. This old belief applies to sprinting, and sprinting only. I first heard of this back in the 80s, so it is far from being new. I'm aware that ...

Re: How I managed to straighten my hand's entry

I thought this was worth sharing. Similar to the majority of beginner/intermediate swimmers out there my hand entry was never straight. Regardless of how much I would focus on this part of the stroke, there was always a bit of crossover, more pronounced with the left hand. During one session, my co...

Re: hypoxic training shallow water blackout -deaths

Hi All, 60 Minutes Australia ran a story on Sunday regarding deaths from hypoxic/no breathing training/play in youths in Australia. It was an eye opener and is likely to change Swimming Australia coaching methods. If you are a coach or do hypoxic training I recommend you watch this episode. http://...

Re: Recommended - Swim Video Analysis Software

Bah I got to purchase objectus. What I disilike about Coaches' eye is that you got to perform the analysis on iOS (or on Android in your case). I prefer Objectus since I can theoretically run the analysis on my desktop (Mac). Coaches' Eye does the job though. Nice and relatively simple. Fast? Hmm we...
