Re: Need help with my swim - video included

HI Well.. not too bad in a wetsuit, and looks like a nice venue too :) A good rhythm through your stroke from the top of the water. As you say, very straight left arm. You drop the elbow too early. Keep it high. Late breathing out. Should be breathing out as soon as your head is in the water. Right ...

Re: Breathe in whilst stroking ?

How about taking the legs out of the equation completely to start with: Use a pull buoy between your legs (so no kick) and just concentrate on the arms. Use your proprioception to see where your lead arm is (i.e. just look ahead briefly). If it is too low then you can bring it up closer to the surfa...

Re: Swimming lessons, what to focus on ?

Wednesday, said to instructor I'm keen to do one arm and or catch up to get this breathing sorted. One arm, waste of time, catch up not a lot better. Worse, two other instructors start chiming in, offering opposing advice.  It's a tough one. There will always be different opinions whe...

Re: What Do You Think Of Mr Smooth?

Here's a link to Jono Van Hazel who Mr Smooth is based on. http://youtu.be/s3HhNlysFDs He almost seems to place his hand into the water rather than spear in, that's what I feel I do but then get told to spear in earlier. That's the difference between an elite swimmer and us mere mortals... ;)

Re: What Do You Think Of Mr Smooth?

Hi SS About Mr Smooth, I'm a bit puzzled as to why Mr Smooth has a deep water catch, also he spears in too far forward as when I spear in in the same way I get a large splash from my elbow. Hi. Mr Smooth doesn't. Look at the model from the front position and you will see that his arms aren't straig...

Neil I wish I could answer that for you and I only chime in b/c it doesn't seem like the SS mods post here these days. Last post I can find from Paul was in January and same for Adam and Solar. So, don't want you holding your breath! Hi 400im you make a valid point. I know that Paul and Adam have b...

Hi Adrian

It will almost always feel easy to start with then at some point you will feel like you are chasing the beeper a little. That is to be expected.

Have fun!

Re: Any SS advice for Shinji?

thats the difference I see. I wonder how much of this difference in strokestyle can explain the swimspeed difference. It seems to me most of the difference is simply a diference in swim fitness. Well. In terms of Swim Smooth swim types they are quite clearly very different. One is an Overglider and...

Re: SWIMMING FITNESS QUESTION

1. Will my body get used to me only doing the front crawl/freestyle? (I can't do any other stroke because I'm still recovering from my injury) This is where you need to change your swimming to a mix of technique; endurance; open water; CSS sessions. Doing this will help to relieve the boredom of ju...

Re: Could I become a Mr. Smooth? (Please analyze)

But I have one question: Can one still get the “devastating” propulsion of a long, smooth stroke by entering the hand near the head, spearing it below shoulder level and holding onto the water THERE? Does the catch have to begin at the water surface with the lead hand gently descending for the stro...

Re: Need help with getting CSS right...

Sadly i wasn't smart enough to log my times the first time, i just input them into the calculator and mentally remembered the resulting pace. I know better now. I do think you are spot on, i think i did take the 400 out a bit faster than i should have. I'll try again in a few weeks and attempt to p...

Re: Need help with getting CSS right...

I guess then the real question is, how come training with CSS increased my sprint speed but not my CSS speed? Hi. What were your 400 and 200 times previously? I would say that the CSS has increased your endurance (as you have found out); and as an overglider your work on stroke rate has increased y...

Re: How to prepare swimming schedule for a swimmer of age 14 yea

I am trying to be Ok. You are asking for quite a lot there from a forum. I'm guessing your swimmer is part of a swim club or swim group? If not then it's best to get your swimmer to join a group with a knowledgable coach 1) so that your swimmer gets an experienced eye on him/her to get better quick...

Re: Mike A video analysis

Hi Mike

Nice :D though I would suggest that the scissor kick is due to your breathing/rotating your head around too far. The arm drops to support this and then the legs are scissoring to balance things out.

Have fun!

Re: CSS...Again

Hi Ken Great that you use mode 3 - and nothing wrong with using it in open water as it keeps you on track, but now that you have established a decent stroke rate in the pool it's now time to 'up your game' and move into mode 1 for some CSS work. I would suggest that you need to re-do your CSS test. ...

Re: Swimming lessons, what to focus on ?

Hi Tom

Brilliant that you have picked up a tempo trainer pro :D

Stick with it at a rate of 60spm for a few weeks then up it by 1 every couple of weeks until you get to 65spm. You'll be surprised how quickly you adapt.

Have fun!

Re: defending my swinging without "coming out swinging"

I think that it is ok to cut people off when they start (especially if it's obvious they are about to show you how to suck eggs). I myself have 'offered' some simple advice rather than just giving it without asking and sometimes those people have said no. That's fine. Up to them completely so have p...
