Re: Swim Help (Video)

Hi There is a lot happening in your stroke that needs working on, but I would start with bilateral breathing and upping your stroke rate a little which will help with the overglide at the front of your stroke. You are around 40-45spm in that video (at a guess as I don't have my stopwatch handy). If ...

Re: Learning by myself at the age of 42 ?

Hi

There is a video for learning to swim from scratch that has been around for some time:

Re: Am I overglider

The snorkel will help with your technique but not getting your breath timing right. Have you tried the bubble-bubble-breath drill? https://app.swimsmooth.com/video/oC/bubble-bubble-breathe-combining-exhalation-and-bilateral-breathing/ It will help you with the breath timing and breathing out in a re...

Re: Am I overglider

Thx for replay Gavin. Really nice to hear that ;-) Now I must do sth with my sinking butt ;-) Doesn't look like you have a sinking bum. Legs are fairly straight and your ankles are just breaking the water with a nice steady kick - Think more of a straight leg with the kick coming from the hip. I ca...

Re: swim smooth app

Hi. It isn't ideal but if you can't use fins there's not much you can do about it. It just means you will have to work your legs a little harder. For drills like sculling you can use a pull buoy at least.

Re: wipping the tail

To keep the legs quiet when swimming with a pull buoy, lateley I pointed my toes and lay the feet on top of each other to make a streamlined pointed tail. It seems that the basic 2BK is rather hardwired in the system now because I noticed some wipping movement of the constructed mermaids tail at th...

Re: Should I adjust my CSS?

Hi Gavin. Many thanks for the response. I appreciate it. I will use the 2:07 for my next couple of swims as well as do another CSS test. As you say I think I probably have improved. I know when I last did the test my 200m time was 4:05 but the other day halfway through a toughish workout I managed ...

Re: Should I adjust my CSS?

The short answer is yes :)

You have clearly improved since September which is good so why not. An improvement is to be expected.

But, I would do another CSS test (as you normally should every 6-8 weeks). You may surprise yourself as I think your new CSS will be slightly faster :D

Re: Can someone take a look at my swim video please...

Hi I would focus on the front of the stroke - very straight arms that are pushing down on the water rather than pushing it back. This downward stroke is pushing your front up and your legs down. Work on Sculling to get a good catch position on your stroke: https://app.swimsmooth.com/video/i6/scull-1...

Re: Distance of training sessions in Swim Smooth book

Do exactly as you have suggested yourself for around 4 weeks, then start adding at least 100m onto each section - again for a few weeks, then add 100m..etc.

Have fun!

Re: define High Elbow

Sorry the finis tempo in mode 1, yes I upped it to 8.5 to see if this improved my times but it simply made me rush through and get out of breath. I breath bi, every 3, this is an improvement for me as i used to breath uni every four. My tempor is usually set at .93 Hi Jo If you have the Finis Tempo...

...Second and this relates to the pace of an open water swim and when in say a 1600m race should one start feeling fatigued. I went out hard on Sunday and started to get tired halfway and slowed a lot in fear of not being able to finish. So when is it normal to start feeling tired in a race? You ha...

Sorry, Swim Smooth only recommends using one of the drills that you have on your blog. Maybe do some research as to which one that may be. The resources are all here :)

Regardless, I hope you all the best and good luck with your blog :)

Re: Tips and tricks. Freestyle in particular

Hi Michael You need to be doing a lot more technique work. Start with sink downs to help you think more about your breathing and releasing the air out of your lungs as soon as you turn your head back into the water (which is where I think is why you start to feel exhausted into your 3rd set): https:...

I can't see why you would try to swim without any rotation at all..? Do you have something in mind?
