Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

i always feel hungary ... even in t urkey? :D Just joking! - waking up at 5:40 - Going to bed at 23:00 That means 6 hours and 40 minutes sleep per night, if everything goes right. Your determination is really admirable. No wonder why you smoked! Hope that you will not burn out too soon. Ayran may h...

Re: Breathing Issues, drills and progression

Went yesterday and tried to put theory into practice and still not quite got the hang of it yet, (had to stop due to ingesting water, yuk!), but hey I've not swam properly....ever! I'm guessing its aking to riding a bike so expect sessions of being all over the place and then it will click (hopeful...

Re: please comment my stroke

By watching the footage in slow motion (Youtube has this function, for instance speed 0.25) this coil movement is quite noticeable. I am not sure if this happens on the other side as when you breathe on the other side, you are swimming away, thus we can only see your feet and some bubbles, if we are...

Re: please comment my stroke

Under water view (at 4k or recovery pace): https://youtu.be/nU09Z79aSgo I found that I overrotate when breathing right (my less favourite side) and this causes bad stuff especially when I'm not fresh. Guess this overrotation doesn't happen (or is less visible) when I swim at faster paces. Nice vide...

Courageous decision. Hope that you will improve as you expect.

Re: Problems achieving "correct" SPM

I am 27. Started swimming around december last year once a week. This summer I did 3-4x week but now back in school and I swim once a week. I run once a week. Re: Problems achieving "correct" SPM

Hello swim smooth forum! I have a problem with achieving high enough SPM. I am an overglider and have a natural SPM around 46. I have tried to go higher (with metronome). When I go around 56 SPM my balance is actually better in the water, I take fewer strokes per length (18 with 46SPL and 17 with 5...

Re: How do I get rid of my fish tailing habit?

What I meant is not quite over-rotation. If that were the case, the head would rotate around the same axis as the rest of the body (around the spine). In the OP'case, when breathing, the head is actually leaning sideways as willing to bite the side lane, while it should stay centered on the axis. In...

Re: How do I get rid of my fish tailing habit?

It's been a long time but I finally think I know the problem. I have tried many things and nothing really got fixed. A friend suggested exaggerating my rotation but then one of my coaches noticed that my kick was going side to side. I have been doing a scissors kick with NO CROSSOVER in my arm stro...

Re: Breathing Issues, drills and progression

Yes my wife could give me some pointers but with minding our young one whilst we take turns doing lengths is unable to see much though she did say it was "less splashy and a bit more controlled" Was she meaning you or your child? :D I was looking at breathing every 3 strokes to ensure I b...

Re: Breathing Issues, drills and progression

First of all, congratulations for taking the plunge in going swimming! I am not a certified coach, but willing to help, if you allow me. In your post, it seems that you are doing better when drilling on the side because you have more time to breathe (so you write at least). In crawl, how often do yo...

I can unfortunately not answer your question as I am not sufficiently knowledgeable in this particular programme. However, I suspect that you will receive more answers in the other forum "Talk Swimming!" as there are significantly more posts over there, although there are certainly many me...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

Your stroke rate at 26 in the pool I think? If so then just doubling it to 52 is not correct as you are most likely spending anything between 4 and 8 seconds turning and not stroking each length . A rule of thumb for most people wold be 2.5 times so 26 becomes 65 but if you are very slow on turns i...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

About your stroke rate, 26/min probably means 26 CYCLES/min, which translate in 52 arm strokes/min. If I am not mistaken, 52 strokes/min are rather slow to very slow (depending on arm span). In my quite poor experience, the wetronome is a very helpful device for swimming faster. Setting it a (slight...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

Sincerest congratulations for your amazing improvement!!! From zero to 2km OW is absolutely amazinf! Though not an expert in swim coaching, I agree with The Dodo's comment. Reducing the front arm pause (dead-spot) is a good start to swim faster with possibly less energy consumption. Reducing the dea...

Re: Suggestions for drills/focus

Speaking of eye diseases caused by swimming, there is one which comes to my mind. Swimmers who wear contact lenses are prone to infections caused by bacteria that are floating around in the water. Pool waters are indeed disinfected but not sterile. It is especially the case when people do not proper...

Re: Suggestions for drills/focus

I have a off the wall question. I am 67 years old and having been lap swimming on and off most of my life. I was recently diagnoised with early stage Glaucoma and there seems to be some evidence to support that swim goggles might be causing the pressure to go up around my eyes. Has anyone heard of ...
