Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

I could well be wrong but he seems to be talking about slowing them down before entry as being a no no. What I meant was the sheer energy I think I'm seeing in your arms . If you were holding a ball and let it go as the arm came forward it would be going at some great speed. I couldn't possibly thro...

Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

Yes great strategy I had better write one up for myself tho slower pace! I love the stats I agree that your sweet spot will be lower than the 75 in the video. To swim at that rate you seem to be using a lot of energy in throwing your arm forward (something that I have only just learnt to stop doing ...

Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

When occasionally I concentrate on strokes per length I use mode 1 e.g. 1.2 equals 50 spm or 1 equals 60 spm that's the range I swim in . 70 would be 0.85 or 0.86. Using it this way if I can drop my stroke count by just one stroke I instantly know my time has dropped by whatever I have the tempo set...

Re: Pace Descriptors, again! :)

Great links I do the red mist every Monday. I can see that the race pace would work my Friday main set homework is closest to this at 10 x100 at CSS less 4 which to me is probably race pace. If I was younger I would probably ignore the beeper on these swims and swim to exhaustion as I know that when...

Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

Hi Salvo Yes Jai Evans he's a lovely guy does lots of work with children. I had a weekly session with him over 10 weeks with him late last year.My objective was to improve my poor side breathing. I had struggled with for couple of years and I didn't feel the actual breathing was the issue . He got m...

Re: Pace Descriptors, again! :)

Hi Nightcrawler the way I have understood the CSS 400/ 200 test is that it's a way to predict your likely total time to swim 1500 without actually having to swim a 1500 and divide by 15 to get your real CSS. So the 200 and 400 gave a CSS of1m20 so a 1500 prediction of 20m 00secs so for a rule of thu...

Re: Nightcrawler's 2017 Season

I came late in life to swimming and wanted the best coaching possible. I was originally coached by Ian Smith of TI who sadly died of a heart attack. I was then in a wilderness trying to find someone as good and found some that didn't suit me. Through this forum I was lucky enough to be offered a vid...

Re: Swim Post - New Drill - Fist/Ankle Band

Hi Cot I couldn't do it whilst keeping my back end so high as you have achieved . But I do have an observation. Your rotation seems to start at the front end rather than the hips. I'm super observant of this at the moment as it's my current focus and the times I get it right my swim feels so much be...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

The two sessions I posted are typical . We may do some at CSS as well the fun one would be swim 2x 100 at CSS with beeper then 100 without , 2x200 with beeper 200 without etc . With the aim to be still sat CSS without the aid of a beeper. A typical technique 300 warm up 200 swim on side out, swim ba...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

The two main homework sessions my coach Emma gives the swimsmooth squad deals with both endurance and speed. They are 1 at CSS plus 4 secs 10 X 300 with 30 sec rests No warm up cool down optional ! 2 at CSS minus 4 secs 10 to 20 X 100 with 15 to 20 sec rests This has a warm up and cool down also A w...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

Another thought you may also be pacing your 1000m poorly. If you have a tempo trainer set it to 2m26 per 100 so if you are in a 25m pool set it to beep at a quarter of this 36.50 secs (mode 1). Swim the first 500 not allowing yourself to get ahead of the beep. Then the last 500 allow yourself to cre...

Re: Increasing stroke rate efficiently

Your stroke rate at 26 in the pool I think? If so then just doubling it to 52 is not correct as you are most likely spending anything between 4 and 8 seconds turning and not stroking each length . A rule of thumb for most people wold be 2.5 times so 26 becomes 65 but if you are very slow on turns it...

Re: Advice on breathing please

Hi Don It just seemed to me that your initial movement was one of starting the hip to move down in a similar way to Adams step around. I hope I can still be as interested and swimming as often as you do when I'm 80. My main motivation is to find a stroke that will enable me to swim long into old age...

Re: Advice on breathing please

Yes I thought his flat was rotating I think he means it's shoulder driven mainly front end rotation but flat at the hips. I'm not good enough at the stroke to be able to explain the difference properly but will be going on a camp . But It is different mechanics to TI it seems to have a lot more glid...

Re: Advice on breathing please

Thanks for the compliment smootharnie as an over glider I know all the theory and overthink it. My best swims are when I can switch off my brain. I haven't seen any public available videos of Adam underwater if you attend one of his clinics he gives access to some but they are on a private site. I f...

Re: Advice on breathing please

It is difficult to explain in words and I may get it wrong but I have had bothTI and Ocean Walker sessions. And a lot of swimsmooth also.I love them all. Adam goes more on his side with wider arms for stability. The rotation starts from (as the recovering arm is entering) a step round which engages ...

Re: Advice on breathing please

Hi Don
The other leg just aids rotation which you say you don't need as the hip flick takes you round.
Before I saw Adam swim in person I thought it was Ti but it is different in a way that only seeing him can show. His mantra to me was hip before pull.
