How to use the snorkel to determine the optimal breathing rate

Postby Adivio » Thu Oct 20, 2016 12:42 pm

This is a question to Ducky as he has brought the topic up several times:
What is the procedure to determine the optimal breathing rate by using a snorkel?

Thanks, Adrian

I breath every second, my stroke rate is somewhere between 60-70, I exhale underwater
but still it feels much better with a snorkel.

Thanks Ducky. Most probably I'm Ok then since you also feel better with the snorkel :).
I don't plan to go back to bilateral every 3rd. I really need all the oxygen I can get.

I was using snorkel yesterday and I remembered this topic. I couldn't do any timing or counting but
what I noticed was that the breathing was synchronized to the arm pulls. This is good I suppose as it means
that I have the same rate of breathing with and without the snorkel. The difference is that with snorkel I can
sip more oxygen, i.e. longer window for intake.
