I havn´t paid Attention to the swim types so far. I used to be an overglider with far to low frequency.

s.sciame wrote:There are faster swimmers with worse technique around. What separates them from us??)

Yes. I swim with a friend sometimes, wo used to race. His style doesn´t look too great, Kind of waterpolo, but he´s soo fast.. He must be doing a lot of Things right under water

USRPT like nightcrawler is doing is what makes me fast.

But right now is offseason, so i try mix Things up a Little. Work on backstroke, do Butterfly.

I can´t do breaststroke kicks, do to my knee.
I had an ACL surgery last year, but i´m afraid i Need another clean up in my knee. Something is very wrong inside.
That´s a reason for my weak kicking.

Maybe its interesting to try these.
If you dont finsh the stroke with keeping backward pressure to the end they will want to come off.

Eww, why's she sitting on a bed for that ???

Yet another swim instructor for me Wednesday, said he was watching to see if I was pushing all the way to the end of the stroke, something I haven't taken much notice of for a while. Done it very deliberately Saturday and it almost felt like a vacuum as my hand came out of the water.

I have those finis paddles and I love them. No falling off. Not even close. They just feel natural. And in medium they are not too big so I can keep rhythm.

They make me about 2-3 sec faster per 100m. Is that normal? Maybe my grip on the water is not good enough.

I dont know, I am no coach. They give me more grip¨and slow strokerate in my case.

Your left side pull is good(although with little finish). The front of your pull reminded me a bit of this guy, who has very good traction on the water (and a normally timed kick). Pretty perfect standard long stroke example me thinks)

try to get the right side at the same level.

s.sciame wrote:the main difference I see is that they hit the water with more oomph, as if their arms were heavier than yours (but in fact it's not). This also produce the typical sound which is a trademark of fast swimming. I usually never see fast swimmers who hit the water silently and gently.

This is a very good artice from Gary Hall Sr. about that Syndrome:

with a Video of the 6-1-6 drill to cure this.

Yes, anyway my guess is that swimming faster for you is more a matter of training more than 10k/week and find the best training/recovery ratio.

I know, but 10k is about all i can spare besides work, family and all that. It´s good to hear, that my technique is basically Sound and only Needs fine Tuning. I will see a good Coach End of december who will also shoot some Videos of me.

Here is me doing Butterfly.

WOW! impressive.
Looks pretty good to my laymans eyes.

I estimate your above avarage athletic ability is worth 10 sec/ 100m at the moment.
Putting an avarage engine in your swimming machine would result in a 1.40-1.45 min /100 pace instead of a 1.30 pace I guess.

You should see the avarage 20 years old in my pool. You are looking way fitter.
