Hi angelinamike

Here's a link to Jono Van Hazel who Mr Smooth is based on.

http://youtu.be/s3HhNlysFDs

As the name suggests - he is a smooth swimmer so doesn't get up too high in regards to stroke rate as he doesn't need to - check out the stats on the video and you will see his split times/stroke rate etc. In the video (near the end) they show his stroke rate at around 88spm. Not sure what you mean about the wave being too hard..?

Hope this helps you visualise what a good smooth style looks like.

In the visualisation video clip of Mr Smooth (intermediate), you say that we can pause him in mid-stroke. I haven't been able to find the pause button, however. Please help.

Hi SS
About Mr Smooth, I'm a bit puzzled as to why Mr Smooth has a deep water catch, also he spears in too far forward as when I spear in in the same way I get a large splash from my elbow.

I think he's a bloody handy stroke checker.

I'd like to see the side wall of the pool tiled so we can get a feel for the speed he moves at and how planted his catch is.

Hi. Mr Smooth doesn't. Look at the model from the front position and you will see that his arms aren't straight.

You are most likely taking your arm completely forward and placing your hand on the water when reaching as far forward as you can. At this outstretched position your elbow is dropping before you place your hand in, hence the splash from your elbow. Try spearing in earlier between your elbow and your wrist.

I also suspect the you have very little rotation through your hips allowing you to 'open up' as your arm comes over the top.

All speculation as I can't 'see you', but hopefully will help you a little.

Have fun!

He almost seems to place his hand into the water rather than spear in, that's what I feel I do but then get told to spear in earlier.

That's the difference between an elite swimmer and us mere mortals... ;)
