As the name suggests - he is a smooth swimmer so doesn't get up too high in regards to stroke rate as he doesn't need to - check out the stats on the video and you will see his split times/stroke rate etc. In the video (near the end) they show his stroke rate at around 88spm. Not sure what you mean about the wave being too hard..?
