egg beater technique treading water

Can we do clockwise movement in the right leg and counter clock wise movement in the left leg the opposite of conventional technique

since the shallow breathing didnt properly clear out C02 from lungs and leading to feelings of tightness in the chest, panic and rushing the rest of the stroke. It would also make me lift my head clear of the water in order to 'get a proper breath' and that of course damages the rest of your stroke and balance further.

Too many swimmers only ever circle one way, and habits die hard, especially in the longer events, when one starts to tire. I try to ensure that my age-groupers get to experience "alternate" circling to help them understand that getting in a rut can be a bad thing, unless it is good technique.
